TOM'S ADVENTURE!

Tom - the mighty fisherman!Late in 2006, Tom listened with interest to a speaker from Wilderness Expertise who was talking to Tom and the rest of his year about an expedition to the Ukraine. It sounded good to Tom - despite being a 2 week trip away from home, and due to take place in 2008!

He understood that to comit to something that far in the future carried serious implications should he even consider a change of mind, but after long discussions with both his Mum and Dad, together and inidivually, he diecided he was going to do it!

Tom is used to 'roughing it'. As you can see from this photo, his favourite passtime (strangely) is fishing - he's very good!

He has no problem bivvying up for the night in order to catch something like this beautiful mirror - in France. He might have a problem if you asked him to eat it though......actually, if he was hungry he probably would!

SOME BACKGROUND

Wilderness ExpertiseCordeaux School have employed the services of a specialist company with many year's experience of running oversees expeditions for young people. Wilderness Experience provide short and long haul expeditions to destinations all over the globe. What appealed to us as Tom's parents was that the members of the team must not only assist in the planning and execution of fund-raising, but also to the planning of parts of their itinerary while they're away.

Planning time for the expedition is 18 months during which time Tom and his team will take part in training - first aid, itinerary planning and fund raising.

Should they wish, the team members can use the training and expedition experience toward the Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award.
